Modern parenting

Mathilde left at 4:30 am to go to a conference in Århus (a Danish city that is several hours away). She'll be back tomorrow evening. Same as last time, she left with a lot guilt and a comprehensive list of things I might need to know. I tried to quell her guilt by saying, "I'll be fine. I only have cancer - and there's probably just a little bit left." That didn't seem to help.

Anyway, it was my responsibility to make sure the kids got up, dressed and out the door. After my alarm went off, I lied there trying to talk myself out from under the covers. Then I was struck with a brilliant idea (some people might call it lazy, I call it brilliant). I rolled over grabbed my mobile phone and sent Emily a text message telling her it was time to get up. I snoozed for another 5 minutes, and when I woke up again, I could hear Emily and Anna chattering away out in the bathroom.

The funny thing is, it seems that Emily follows instructions a lot more enthusiastically when they come through her phone - they got dressed, brushed hair, etc. without a hitch. I'll have to remember that.

For the record, I did get up after the next snooze and make them breakfast.

Kev,

Reminds me of a story about Meth addicts in the local paper. There was this one woman who was so addicted she would text her kids from her bed and tell them were to find her dealer. Kind of sick.

Of course, it could be that I am just making this up in a lame attempt at humor. But honestly, as lame as this may be it is better than the flying penguin story. Of course the flying penguin story wasn't really your fault, it was the damn BBC. If you think Danish public television is bad, just check out the acting on some of those BBC Sitcoms. They may drunk college kids in Cancun seem interesting. Of course the drunk college kids in Cancun were all wearing bikinis so they were more intersting than Brits with bad teeth and stupid accents...

Later,
Scott
